Inflammation and Restoration

Today I went to the Carson Hot Springs to soak in the hot water of 102 to 104 degrees. It was lovely and restorative to my body. The warm/hot water pulls out my toxins, reduced my inflammation, helped me sleep like a baby. After my car accident in Fall of 2015, my neck at C7-T-1 sustained some disc issue. When I don't take the time to get good sleep, stretch, move my body or eat too much sugar, I hurt. Inflammation, even low-grade inflammation, can cause real problems in the body.

Many of my clients and therapists I speak to in my classes talk about inflammation. Many suffer from inflammation due to chronic pain. Whether you have a musculoskeletal condition like arthritis, a skin condition like psoriasis, or an irritable bowel there are many natural ways to relieve or reduce your symptoms. Here are a few natural pain and inflammation relief techniques.

Anti-Inflammatory Herbs

Herbs that reduce inflammation include turmeric, ginger, white willow bark, cinnamon, garlic, cayenne, and more. These herbs and spices can naturally reduce pain and inflammation. Herbal treatments have been used for centuries, long before modern medicine. They’re all-natural and completely safe. So, spice up your meals for some natural relief! You can add turmeric to your favorite milk or shake too!

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Adding Omega-3 fatty acids to your diet is a fabulous way to reduce inflammation and pain. They can be found in a number of tree nuts, as well as fish. This fat rich resource has been shown to reduce depression, help with ADHD symptoms, and improve memory.

Body Work such as Craniosacral Therapy or Massage Therapy.

A gentle light touch craniosacral session could be just what the doctor ordered for your chronic pain and inflammation. Craniosacral Therapy gets to the root of your issue and promotes your body's natural healing processes and that includes your immune system which, is responsible for getting rid of inflammation. Massage Therapy, on the other hand, promotes blood circulation and releases muscle tension. It can also relieve joint and skin inflammation. Both have been shown to offer full-body pain relief.

Rest

Stress and lack of sleep are significant culprits to chronic pain and inflammation. Getting a good night sleep is the cornerstone to health, but it can also reduce inflammation. So, make sure you give yourself some time to relax on a regular basis. There are other ways to get rest, like taking a short getaway to a quiet or relaxing spa or hot springs, taking a mental health day and recharging your body; scheduling regular craniosacral sessions to name a few.

Mineral Water

Soaking in mineral water, like hot springs promotes blood circulation and offers natural inflammation and pain relief, because it’s rich in magnesium and other minerals. Mineral water soaks are high on my list, not only as a practitioner but also for my own personal care, because they are extremely helpful with pain relief since the heat from the bath can offer added inflammation reduction. Plus, you can enhance its anti-inflammatory benefits even more by adding bath salts to your soak. Soaking in, or drinking, mineral water is highly restorative to your health.
